According to OSHA, work-related musculoskeletal disorders are the most prevalent, most expensive and most preventable injuries in the American workplace today.

• According to the Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index, overexertion injuries, workplace musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) and repetitive motion injuries (RMIs) cost employers $11.9 billion in direct medical costs nationwide in 2000. The indirect costs are projected to be four times that amount.
  
  
• Workplace injuries due to repetitive motions from using computers cost $2.8 billion in 2002 and were the #4 cause of work injuries in 2001 and 2002 (Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index, 2002).
  
  
• The average back surgery direct costs are $75,000 dollars. The average cost of a single carpel tunnel surgery is $29,000. The indirect costs of back and carpel tunnel disorders are 3 to 6 times the direct costs, representing losses due to time loss from work, decreased productivity, retraining and rehiring.
